The state's 2010 fiscal year begins on Wednesday and state agencies are being advised to use their dollars wisely.
Lieutenant Governor Troy Findley says all eyes are on states to see that they don't waste what critics already consider excessive spending.
Kansas will get $1.95 billion from the federal stimulus fund through fiscal year 2011.
Most is going to shore up spending for education, highway and social service programs.
Some of the funds will also provide additional money for thousands of unemployed workers.
But, the continued weakness in the economy may mean further cuts beyond what legislators approved this spring.
