Hot weather means more firefighters per fire

Soldier Township Fire Department was the first to respond to a fire at 4221 NW Dondee Lane in Shawnee County. Because of the warm temperatures, Chief Dave Meeks said Silver Lake and Topeka Fire Departments were called in for relief.

The occupants of the home were there when the fire started, but Meeks said he didn't believe anyone was hurt. Westar crews also responded because there was damage to power lines that connected to the rear of the home.

Only minor damage to the rear of the home was visible from the outside.
