Topeka Several dealerships across northeast Kansas are seeing their agreements to sell Chrysler vehicles terminated as a part of the company's bankruptcy proceeding.
Jim Clark Motors in Lawrence got word they are one of the 789 dealerships targeted to lose their agreements.
The owner says he plans to appeal the decision--set to take effect June 9th.
Briggs Auto Group in Manhattan is another dealership on the long list.
We tried to call the company--but they never returned our phone calls.
Gary Hardy in Holton was on the list, even though it's already closed. The dealership announced it's closing in December and ceased operations March First.
Another dealership hit with the news was JCMC incorporated in Junction City, which operates the Jim Clark dealership there.
Owner Willie Thornberg tells 49 News they are staying open because they sell more than just Chrysler products.
"Jeep was not our primary line," he said. "Our main focus has been General Motors, which we really weren't surprised that we didn't get picked for the new Chrysler Corporation, because our emphasis has been General Motors."
Chrysler wants to eliminate nearly one-fourth of
its more than 3,000 U.S. dealerships by early next month. The company says in a
bankruptcy court filing that the network is antiquated and has too
many dealerships competing with each other.
