Attempted bank robbery, bomb scare may be related
Police say a suspicious device at a store parking lot and a bank robbery attempt may be related.
Topeka A local store was evacuated Thursday night because of a possible explosive device in a car in the parking lot.
The parking lot at Wal-Mart near SW 37th and Topeka Blvd. was blocked off while the Topeka Police bomb squad investigated the suspicious device.
Police say they have a person of interest in custody who may be related to an attempted bank robbery.
That attempted robbery happened at shortly after 5 p.m. at the Capital Federal branch at 29th and Kansas.
Officers tell 49 News the FBI is investigating the crime with the help of Topeka Police.
At the Wal-Mart location, police kept customers in the store for a couple of hours while they investigated.
But officers were able to let all customers go home safely by about 8:30 p.m.
