Topeka Zoological Park is saddened to announce the passing of M’Bili, a male Lowland gorilla on November 7, 2009. He was found deceased this morning by zoo staff around 7:30 a.m. in his night quarters. M’Bili had not been exhibiting any outward signs of illness or distress; he was 17 years and 8 months of age at time of his death.
Topeka Zoological Park staff has transported M’Bili to Kansas State University School of Veterinary Medicine for a full necropsy to determine the cause of death. At this time results are pending and a full report will be presented when available.
M’Bili was born at the San Diego Wild Animal Park on February 15; 1992.He had been residing at the San Diego Zoo before his arrival at the Topeka Zoo in December 2001. Topeka Zoo currently has one Lowland gorillas Tiffany, still residing at the Zoo.
