Governor Mark Parkinson signed a disaster declaration Friday for recent winter storms in 18 Kansas counties.
Recent storms Nov. 14-16 resulted in over $9.5 million in damages. Counties impacted include Atchison, Brown, Clay, Cloud, Doniphan, Jackson, Jefferson, Jewell, Marshall, Mitchell, Nemaha, Osborne, Ottawa, Pottawatomie, Republic, Riley, Smith and Washington Counties.
"Winter is not even officially here, but already we've had a reminder of just how devastating a Kansas winter storm can be," said Parkinson. "This declaration will allow the affected counties to repair damage to their electrical infrastructure, so they can prepare for more severe weather that may come our way later this winter."
Some counties reported up to 12 inches of snow and hundreds lost power from the storm.
