Wife of Topekan held in Haiti creates Facebook page

Marta Culberth tells 49 News' Ben Bauman she is certain her husband is innocent of the charges against him.

The Facebook group, Bring Drew Culberth Home, already had more than 600 members on Monday. On the info page, Culberth is called "an honorable and selfless man, a loyal friend, and a wonderful husband and father."

Culberth is youth pastor at Bethel Baptist Church and a Topeka firefighter. He and 9 other Americans are charged with kidnapping and conspiracy, after they were stopped at the Dominican border with a busload of children.

In an e-mail message, Marta Culberth told 49 News' Ben Bauman: "I do appreciate how you have 'let me be' thus far. I am trying to keep things as 'normal' as possible right now for my young children."

She went on to say: "Drew is a caring man and anyone who knows him knows that he will drop just about anything to help someone in need. That is why he volunteered (at the last minute) to go on this short-term mission trip with his brother-in-law and nephew (both also among those detained in Haiti). He felt his emergency medical training would be helpful as they would be caring for children affected by the Haiti earthquake. He was to return on the 6th—his birthday. I have not spoken to Drew in almost two weeks now. I know he is innocent of these charges. Our kids want their Daddy back. I want my husband back. We want our family back, which is why I created the Facebook Page. I am hoping and praying for a positive, quick resolution to this misunderstanding with the Haitian government."
