The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has issued a boil water advisory for the City of Overbrook.
Overbrook is located in Northeast Osage County. KDHE issued the advisory because of a water main break which cause the water tower to drain, which means there was a loss of pressure. When a loss of pressure occurs it is possible for the water to be contaminated.
Another problem with a loss of pressure is the chlorine levels are too low to protect against bacterial contamination.
The city is looking for the leak, but while repairs are being made customers may be without water for an extended period of time.
KDHE recommends boiling water for at least one minute before using it. Only boil water for drinking, brushing your teeth, or food preparations. Do not use any ice cubes from an automatic ice dispenser.
We will keep you posted on when it is safe to use water again without boiling it.
