Extension cord to blame for early morning fire
Improper use of an extension cord is to blame for a fire that left some Topekans out of a home.
The Topeka Fire Department says the fire broke out just after 12:00 a.m. on Monday at 2301 SE Adams Street.
Investigators say a space heater was plugged into an extension cord which could not support the electrical current. The fire caused $70,000 in damages.
One adult and three children were taken to a hospital to be checked for any potential injuries, and all were released. The Red Cross is assisting the adult and three children.
