State transportation officials today released a study on providing Amtrak passenger rail service from Kansas to Fort Worth.
Four alternatives were considered, ranging in start-up costs from $156 million to $479 million. Three of the alternatives run from Kansas City, Mo. and include stops in Lawrence, Topeka, Emporia, Strong City, Newton, Wichita and Arkansas City. The fourth alternative has stops in Newton, Wichita and Arkansas City.
The routes have estimated ridership from 65,900 to 174,000 per year.
