A tragic accident on I-70 Wednesday afternoon leaves four children without their mother.

Myra Reyes, 25, rolled her Ford Explorer after her right rear tire blew near mile marker 187. Reyes was transported to a nearby hospital but later died from her injuries.

Reyes's common law husband, Ricardo Lopez, 33, was in the passenger seat. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Also in the vehicle were Reyes' four children: America, 10; Juan, 8; Jennifer, 6; and Kevin Hernadez-Reyes, 2.

The children suffered non-life threatening injures. Three were released from a local hospital. Juan was kept over night and released Thursday morning.

Connie Vanderslice and Kenna Burns were traveling back from Kansas City when they saw the accident. The two said that they pulled the children from the vehicle when responders began to smell gasoline.

A second crash occurred in the eastbound lane on I-70 when an off-duty fire fighter stopped to help the westbound accident. His car was struck from behind by a passing car. No serious injuries were reported.
