Manhattan resident Amy Adams photographed these trash trucks as they drove through her neighborhood picking up month-old trash today. They used Ryder trucks, as pictured, because Arrow Trash trucks were down, garbage men said.

Zebra Mussels

You can call them the roaches of the water. They multiply quickly, they're a nuisance and they are virtually impossible to get rid of. The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks classifies Zebra Mussels as an Aquatic Nuisance Species, and they definitely live up to that.

Boating accident

A canoe trip on the Kansas River turned deadly. Fishermen were able to pull two boaters out of the rushing waters after their canoes capsized on the Kansas River at about 11 p.m. Sunday. The other two are presumed dead.
1965 Melan Bridge collapse

The Melan Bridge came tumbling down in Topeka in July 1965. The Melan Bridge, which is no longer, spanned the Kansas River and was heavily used as the Kansas Avenue Bridge was being built.

It was a physically defensive game between the Jayhawks and the Salukis. The 'Hawks saw their biggest lead at 10-2 only five minutes into the game. The possessions were hard to get. Rush led the Jayhawks in scoring with 12 points. It 59-58 KU with under a minute to go, and the Jayhawks were able to move on.
