Photojournalist Justin Schmidt captures Fort Riley officers meeting with “dignitaries” at an “Iraqi village.” Several mock Iraqi villages have been constructed on Ft. Irwin, and role-players are hired to portray villagers. Part of the training includes interacting with these villagers, to prepare soldiers for winning the hearts and minds of the Iraqi citizenry during their deployment. View photo »
Members of the greater Fort Riley Community dropped in on the exercises one day while we were there. They included city officials from Junction City, Manhattan and many other surrounding towns, which are impacted economically by what happens at Fort Riley. View photo »
