Ben Bauman is the co-anchor for the 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts.
Ben got his broadcasting start as a student at Washburn University in Topeka, with a part-time ‘gig’ at the PBS station, KTWU. He soon added another part-time job as weekend anchor/reporter at WIBW Radio and TV. After receiving his Communications degree from Washburn, Ben joined WIBW Radio, where he soon moved up to the position of News Director, a job he held for 10 years.
During a two-year hiatus, Ben served as Director of Communication for Kansas Governor Bill Graves, but at the end of Graves’ second term, Ben was back in broadcasting, resuming morning anchor duties in 2003 at 580-WIBW.
Ben has been honored by his peers for broadcast excellence numerous times, but says he is most rewarded by knowing a story has helped, inspired or entertained someone. He is also a graduate of the Leadership Kansas program and has served on various community and non-profit groups, including his church and local school board.
Ben grew up on a farm near Bern, Kansas, where he enjoys returning as often as possible. He and his wife, Marj, have three grown children and four grandchildren. They enjoy spending time with family, travel, gardening and sports.
