News Director

Denise Eck is the news director for the award-winning team of journalists at 49 News.

As a reporter, Denise’s investigative and breaking news reporting of the Virginia Tech massacre helped WSLS-TV earn a prestigious Peabody Award in 2008. She has also received two regional Edward R. Murrow awards for investigative reporting, an Emmy Award for coverage of the deadly natural gas explosions in Hutchinson, Kansas, and has awards from the Kansas Association of Broadcasters and Associated Press of Virginia.

In her current role as news director, Denise enjoys the challenge of developing stories that make a difference in the lives of Northeast Kansans.

When away from the office, Denise rides her bike, works on her southwest Topeka home and spends time with her two favorite guys, Mike and Spike.
