Nic Hoch is the sports director at 49 News.

He joined the team in 2008 after graduating from the University of Alabama with a degree in Broadcast News.

The Midwest – Iowa, Nebraska and Minnesota – is where Nic grew up, and he got his start as a play-by-play sportscaster for his Chariton, Iowa high school’s football and basketball games. He also hosted a weekly sports radio talk show.

During college, Nic was the sports director for the campus radio station and became the play-by-play voice of Alabama softball. He also provided coverage for men’s and women’s basketball, gymnastics and soccer. After graduation he joined WVUA-TV in Tuscaloosa, Alabama as a sports reporter.

Nic’s favorite sport is baseball and he’s a New York Yankee fan, but he’s excited to be back in the Midwest and the heart of the Big 12. When not at work, he enjoys a good sports event – on TV or in-person – and can often be found playing a video game.

If you see Nic out and about, stop and say “hello.” He always has time to talk about sports and current events.
