Whitney Mathews was born and grew up in Lenexa, Kansas. She is a senior at the William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Kansas. After four long years, she will graduate in May 2006, with a degree in journalism and minor in Italian language and culture. She is a weekend Web producer for 49 News, and loves it. Considering she is still a student, Whitney is more than excited to have a real job in TV news.
Previously, she has interned for NBC Action News (KSHB) in Kansas City, Missouri where she met and became friends with fellow Web producer, Megan Connor and KSNT in Topeka. She has also interned at WVEC-TV in Norfolk, Virginia. She is a producer for KUJH-TV News, the student-run television at KU.
Whitney's family has lived in Lenexa for 25 years. Her mom still lives in the same house the kids grew up in, and her dad and his wife live in Lenexa too. Her older brother lives in Kansas City, Missouri, and her sister recently permanently relocated to Bilbao, Spain.
One of her favorite hobbies is being KU sports fan. She has only missed four men's basketball games at Allen Fieldhouse since she enrolled at KU. Other interests are ancient Roman and Italian art, language and culture, her iPod and cheering against Mizzou.
